CBS, Sony Become Beneficiaries after Whitney Houston Dead ?

Singer/actress Whitney Houston was known as a talented artist. Although her strategic death is a loss to the music world, it is not shocking. However, the death of the “I Will Always Love You” singer will boost the fortunes of over two of businessmen to produce her work.

Michael Jackson passed away in 2009, spurring a big boost in sales. According to the research of the Guardian in November 2011, after Jackson’s death in June 2009, the King of Pop’s estate made $279 million, increasing his $500 million net worth by over 50%. On the other hand, the singer’s biggest selling album “Thriller” was sold a million new copies in several months after his death.

The Guardian also reported that Jackson’s death put him in rarified sales territory. When his radio play royalties were added in, Michael Jackson’s earnings topped those of “Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Madonna and Jay-Z combined during the year after his death.”

As the result, Whitney Houston’s death is believed to boost the value of her estate and also bring more people to the 2012 Grammy Awards telecasted on CBS on Sunday night, February 12. Hollywood Reporter said that in the year of 2011, the programme were watched by 26.6 million viewers, its largest audience in 11 years. And this year, with Houston’s death and promised tribute by Jennifer Hudson, the number of watchers is expected to be higher than in 2012.
